Allotments on Gamesley – Let us know November 20, 2008

Mick Dewhurst chairman of GRAwants to gauge the level of interest in the ‘grow your own’ movement on the estate.
Mick says “There is a lot of interest locally at the moment about people having allotments,” said Mike Dewhurst. “There’s plenty of land around here, particularly around the ring road (Melandra Castle Road). Setting up allotments would also have a double advantage — it would also stop developers building on the land in future. It would be great to see people out on allotments growing their own food. We all know fruit and veg is a lot healthier for you but allotments are also great exercise for people out in the open. We‘ve got a few people interested already but there may be more — we need so many names before we can pass them on to local councillors.”
The more the merrier, as sufficient demand could convince High Peak Council’s parks department of the merits of Gamesley’s case.
Anyone who would be interested in looking after an allotment on the estate should contact “green fingers” Janet Bruce, on 01457 857770.
