At the weekend, a male purporting to be a police officer telephoned an elderly resident in Buxton, trying to make an appointment to visit her home to do a security check. Please be aware that police officers will only contact residents to carry out security checks if the resident has recently been a victim of crime or if the resident has contacted the police to request a home security check. Police officers have identification that can be checked out by calling 0345 123 33 33.
Different techniques are being used by certain security companies who are trying to sell security systems to residents.
